PAREF Rosehill has added the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand to its senior high school program.

In the previous years, Rosehill only offered the General Academic Strand (GAS) and the Humanities and Social Sciences Strand (HUMSS); STEM and ABM strands were previously not accessible to the Rosehill students.

The addition of the STEM strand came about through the PAREF SHS Consortium, an agreement that allows PAREF senior high students to cross-enroll in subjects offered by other PAREF schools but are not offered in the home school.

According to Mrs. Ana Liza De La Cruz, PAREF Rosehill’s Associate Director for Academic Standards, the Department of Education (DepEd) granted the PAREF schools approval for the consortium.

Currently, seven Grade 11 students are taking up STEM subjects offered by Rosehill; however, starting school year 2022-2023, these students will have to cross-enroll to other PAREF schools in order to take the other subjects required to graduate under the STEM strand.

Cross-enrollment

Rosehill SHS students will cross-enroll specialized STEM subjects in either PAREF Woodrose or PAREF Southcrest.

According to Mrs. De La Cruz, these two schools are the ones with the permit to offer the STEM strand.

She said that Rosehill offers Pre-calculus and Basic Calculus, two specialized subjects of STEM, to its senior high school students as additional electives.

This means that only a few subjects require cross-enrollment.

“The subjects that will be cross-enrolled are General Physics 1 and 2, General Biology 2, and General Chemistry 2 because we are offering General Chem 1 and General Bio 1,” Mrs. De La Cruz said.

ABM Strand

According to Mrs. de la Cruz, the Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) strand has also been added to Rosehill’s senior high program through the PAREF SHS Consortium.

“It’s not just STEM, even ABM… So we have all the four strands, the HUMSS, the GAS, the ABM, and also the STEM [strand],” Mrs. De La Cruz said.
